We were living in Ft. Lauderdale during the 1970s. My Mom and dad would take us kids on very special occassions to the Kapok Tree near near Ft. Lauderdale. I still remember being impressed by the fantasy like luxury of the property. Of course, the sentimental memories of my childhood make the place even more special in my heart. Sad to hear that it is gone. I am surprised some big corporate entertainment firm doesn't revive it.

Around 1970, My mother and stepfather came to visit me in Sarasota Floirda; we were from upstate NY. I was a newly wed who went to Sarasota with my new husband who would attend the Ringling School of Art. We drove up to the Kapok Tree In for dinner and my Mother fell in love with it. For nearly 30 years she would mention it often, including years while she had Alzheimers. For 40 years I lived outside of Florida and just returned, hoping to go and have a dinner at the Kapok Tree Inn in memory of my Mother. A few years to late. Glad they have kept it in tack. Too bad they can't put up a small restaurant; it'd make money.

We moved here in 1996 and although I have driven past the Kapok Tree location hundreds of times today was the first time inside as it is a polling place for Florida election. I was so surprised to see the interior and the grounds. It doesn't look like much from the street but it is quite a surprise once inside. I am disappointed that it is no longer a restaurant or supper club. It is still magnificent

I lived in Tampa in 1967/1968 while my husband was in Vietnam. With FL and the GOP Convention in Tampa so much in the news, I 'visited' Ybor City online ... good memories. Just on a hunch, I tried "Kapok Tree" again... had not found anything some years ago. What a pleasant surprise, there you were ! Thank you for your effort ... very well done

My parents first took me to this restaurant back in the early 70's during our Florida Vacations. My wife and I visited during our honeymoon in 1981. I can remember walking through the gift shops and gardens drinking a planter's punch while waiting for our table. They don't make restaurants like this any more. This was a unique Florida experience.

Enjoyed many a fine meal there over the years. Such a beautiful setting! IN our travels it was amazing how many people commented about the Kapok Tree Inn when we said we were from Clearwater. The gardens were awesome.

The Kapok Tree folk took out an ad in the Class of 1960 yearbook, the Aqua Clara, and allowed two members of the class to have their pictures taken in the restaurant for the ad in the back of the yearbook. I was one of the two; my only disappointment was that we could only LOOK like we were eating for the photo! Loved eating there with my folks over the years - it was one of a kind!

Absolutely loved looking at the all pictures! I have heard of the Kapok Tree Inn since I was a child because a cousin of mine was a hostess there in late '50's and early 60's. I had no idea the place was so grand until I found this site. Thank you so much, I wish I could have visited there, just once.
